First week so far

I meant to have started by now but I guess six or seven months is still more than enough. Today I swam 300 metres, all freestyle, in 8m46s. My first 100m was 2m23 which was ok, but my next two splits were a lot slower - 3m03 and 3m20.

Yesterday I headed out for a run - my first for about a year. I have lots of time so I plan to start the runs slowly which is why I only headed out for 10 minutes. It went ok. I even strapped on my heart monitor just to see how the old ticker was handling things.

I was a bit surprised at how high my heart rate went. It peaked at about 169 and averaged at around 151. Which considering the pace I was doing (slow!), was surprising.

Let me do a few calculations for heart rates: I am 33, so in theoretically my max heart rate is:
220 - 33 = 187

For a slow pace (65% mhr), my heart rate should be around 122.
So there is some work to be done fitness wise!!

Anyway, my plan for the rest of the week is another swim and another run.
